Celebrating the Completion of a Veterinary Ophthalmology Residency: Alex Verloop’s Journey

We are excited to announce that Dr. Alex Verloop has successfully completed his Veterinary Ophthalmology Residency under the expert mentorship of Dr. Tony Read. Dr. Read, a distinguished    leader in veterinary ophthalmology and founder of the Veterinary Ophthalmic Referrals (VOR), played an instrumental role in shaping Alex’s expertise. With his extensive knowledge and passion for teaching, Dr. Read has guided Alex through the rigorous demands of this specialized program, preparing him for the next step—his certification exams in 2025. We are immensely proud of Alex’s dedication and perseverance throughout this challenging journey.

So, Who is Dr. Alex Verloop?

Dr. Alex Verloop’s veterinary journey began when he graduated from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, in 2009. Starting his career as a mixed practice veterinarian in Mpumalanga, his passion for eye care took root during his student years. This early fascination with ophthalmology naturally guided him toward specializing in small animal practice.

In 2018, Alex furthered his commitment to the field by completing his postgraduate certificate in Ophthalmology while working for a Referral practice in Pretoria, South Africa. His drive to enhance his expertise in ocular health became the foundation of his career, pushing him toward continuous growth in this specialized area.

In 2019, Alex and his family emigrated to Australia, where he became head veterinarian at Vets4Pets. His ambition to specialize even further led him to pursue an Ophthalmology Residency at VOR, under the mentorship of Dr. Tony Read.

As Alex now prepares for his certification exams in 2025, we are confident that his dedication to veterinary ophthalmology will continue to lead to great achievements. Congratulations, Dr. Verloop, on this incredible accomplishment! We look forward to watching your future success unfold.
